At Westshore Jewelry, we provide professional jewelry and watch appraisals to ensure your treasured pieces are accurately valued for insurance, resale, or personal knowledge.
If you’re thinking about buying a new piece of jewelry, whether it’s an engagement ring or an anniversary gift, getting an appraisal is a smart move.
An appraisal is a professional evaluation of your jewelry, detailing every important aspect and providing a thorough report.
Just as you insure major purchases like your car or home, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect your new jewelry investment. The appraisal process is simple and trustworthy when done by the right expert—and it can make all the difference if your jewelry is ever lost or stolen.
An appraisal that only lists the value of your item is a major red flag. A high-quality jewelry appraisal should be thorough, covering all the details necessary for your piece to be replaced at its full value or for a replacement to closely match the original.
For diamonds in engagement rings, earrings, necklaces, and other jewelry, the appraisal will include essential details like color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. These factors are graded on standardized scales set by the GIA. Carat weight can even be assessed by our Graduate Gemologists without needing to remove the diamond from its setting.
Westshore Jewelry provides appraisals for any gemstone, as well as gold and silver pieces.
The appraisal process at Westshore Jewelry is quick and easy. Simply call ahead to schedule an appointment at our store, and we’ll complete the appraisal while you wait.
If you don’t have an appointment, you can drop off your jewelry with our experts, and we’ll take care of the rest. At Westshore Jewelry, we conduct thorough laboratory tests to evaluate every aspect of your piece, without needing to remove stones from their settings to determine their weight.
Each appraisal includes all the essential details: stone grade and weight, metal karat and weight, a clear image, and a detailed description of the piece. Additionally, your appraisal will serve as a statement of ownership, featuring your name and address.
At the end of your appointment, which typically lasts about an hour, you’ll leave with both your jewelry and the completed appraisal. If you left your piece for evaluation, we’ll contact you once everything is ready for pick-up
After getting your jewelry appraised, what’s next to ensure you’re covered by insurance?
Requirements can vary depending on your insurance provider, so it’s essential to contact them and confirm what they need. Most insurance companies typically request updated appraisals every 3-5 years, as the value of materials like gold, silver, and gemstones fluctuates over time.
Don’t wait until your jewelry is lost or stolen to provide an appraisal—most insurance carriers require your jewelry to be listed separately on your policy for coverage.
If it’s been a while since your last appraisal, don’t worry. Just bring your piece to Westshore Jewelry, and our Graduate Gemologists will give you a precise, up-to-date appraisal.
